The Cayman is a 4x4 armored vehicle fully designed and developed in Belarus by the JSC ‘140 repair plant’ for the Armed Forces of Belarus. The vehicle was unveiled in 2015 and the first public demonstration was performed during a military parade in July 2016.

The Cayman consists of a new design completely different compared to the old BRDM-2 and that very close to the design of the German-made Fennek 4x4 reconnaissance vehicle in service with the German and the Dutch army.

The Cayman offers more protection against mine blast explosion using a V-hull design to increase vehicle and crew survivability by deflecting an upward directed blast from a landmine or IED Improvised Explosive Device away from the vehicle, while also presenting a sloped armor face. With this type of armor, the Cayman will offer superior protection compared to the BTR-80 8x8 armored personnel carrier.

The Cayman has a very unique low-profile design with the driver seated at the front of the vehicle with excellent vision to his front via three large bulletproof windows. The engine compartment is located at the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle is powered by a D-245.30E2 engine developing 515Nm at 1,500rpm. coupled to a mechanical transmission through a five-speed gearbox. The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 100 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 1,000 km.

At MILEX 2021, the new version of the Cayman was fitted with an Adunok BM-30 turret that is armed with one 30mm 2A42 automatic cannon and one 7.62lmm PKT machine gun. The turret has a total weight of 1,380 kg. With this new turret, Cayman will have more firepower than the previous versions.
