"The Russian Army is carrying out active work to furnish reconnaissance units with advanced reconnaissance equipment, special small arms and new-generation combat gear," the press office said.

In particular, reconnaissance units are expected to receive the Orlan and Eleron unmanned aerial vehicles, the Fara-VR, Sobolyatnik-O and Strelets radars and reconnaissance systems, as well as "a version of the Ratnik combat gear that has been specifically designed for reconnaissance units," the press office added.

The press office did not specify which special characteristics the version of the Ratnik combat outfit featured.

The ordinary Ratnik combat gear comprises about 40 items, including small arms, protection and life support systems and communications, navigation and target designation equipment.

As Russian Army Commander-in-Chief Colonel-General Oleg Salyukov said earlier, Russia is currently developing a new version of the Ratnik combat gear, i.e. Ratnik-3 combat outfit, with an integral exoskeleton and a helmet visor-mounted target designation system.
