For the military parade of the French Army which will be held July 14, 2015, to commemorate the Bastille Day, the 2nd Dragoon Regiment (2e Régiment de Dragons) will take part to the motorized military parade. This is the only French army unit dedicated to perform missions against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats.

Army Recognition editorial had the opportunity to make an interview with the Lieutenant-Colonel Lion, the current commander of this unit. During this interview, soldiers of the regiment also presented all the equipment and vehicles used to perform their missions.

The 2nd Dragoon Regiment (French: 2e régiment de dragons, 2e RD) was in the past an armoured cavalry unit of the French Army equipped with the main battle tank Leclerc. Since 2005, the regiment became the only CBRN (NRBC in French) unit of the French Army.

Currently, the 2nd Dragoon Regiment is one of the contributor of the French Army for the fight against Ebola.

The 2nd Dragoon Regiment is currently the only unit of the French Army specialised in defending against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) weapons, although there also are French Air Force teams with CBRN defense capabilities. The regiment's personnel undergo their training at the Army's CBRN school, located in Saumur.

All members of the regiment are trained in decontamination, and upon completing this training, they may undergo training for CBRN reconnaissance and operating in a "light role team" (LRT). The regiment's most immediate role is seen as being ready to deal with terrorism on French soil, but its role extends to handling accidents at industrial facilities such as nuclear power plants, handling attacks on France during a war, assisting civil defence, and protecting French forces on operations. As well as being tasked with defending France, it has the capability to be deployed overseas if needed.

The regiment is under the direct command of the "Commandement des Forces Terrestres", the high authority of the French Army.

During the military parade of July 14, 2015, the regiment will parade with its combat vehicles as the VAB Command Post, the VAB CBRN reconnaissance vehicles, VLRA CBRN decontamination vehicle, the TRM 10000 SDA equipped with an aerial nacelle which can go up to 12 meters to decontaminate buildings or large vehicles, and the TRM 10000 CERPE (CEntre de Reconditionnement du PErsonnel) used to decontaminate military personnel or civilian people.
