France plans to deliver more weapons to Ukraine including CAESAR 155mm howitzers.

On December 20, 2022, during an interview with TF1 and LCI television, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France will send more military equipment and weapons to Ukraine. In recent days, France supplied Ukraine with Crotale NG air defense missile systems and LRU M270 rocket launchers, and more CAESAR 155mm self-propelled howitzers will be delivered to the Ukrainian army in the next few weeks.

France was the largest arms exporter to Ukraine between 2014 and 2020 for an amount of €1.6 billion including helicopters, reconnaissance drones, navy-related weapons and equipment, targeting systems, ammunition of various calibers and fire control systems.

In October 2022, France announced a special fund for Ukraine amounting to €200 million for the purchases of weapons and military equipment manufactured by French defense companies.

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, France has already provided military equipment and weapons to Ukraine for an amount of €470 million and is ranked the 5th country in Europe providing military, financial, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Today, France has already supplied Ukraine with 18 CAESAR 155mm 6x6 wheeled self-propelled howitzers and planned to deliver 6 more howitzers in the next few weeks.

The French CAESAR howitzers they have already shown great effectiveness in combat in Ukraine, and were able to destroy specific targets through the use of guided artillery munitions.

The CAESAR is a wheeled self-propelled howitzer designed and manufactured by the French company Nexter. It is armed with one 155 mm/52 caliber cannon mounted at the rear of the truck chassis.

The cannon of the CAESAR is able to fire a wide range of ammunition: among others, LU family (HE, Illuminating, Smoke and Practice) filled with insensitive or conventional explosives, the BONUS (Anti-Tank, smart), ERFB NR (Explosive Extended-Range Full-Bore), as well as the new KATANA 155mm, guided artillery ammunition. It has a firing range from 4.5 to 40 km and a high level of accuracy with the LU family.
