“The personnel, which is going to operate and employ this weapon, has undergone special training and has experience in using the weapon, including at training ranges in Russia,” Colonel Andrei Dolbik, the commander of the brigade, which is deployed in the town of Fanipol, the Minsk Region, said in a televised interview. “This kind of weapon is not new for the personnel. A combat training plan has been adapted for the Tor air defense missile squadron. I am convinced that the system will be effectively employed,” he said.

The Belarusian Defense Ministry said late in December 2022 that it had received a new shipment of Russian Tor-M2K air defense missile systems in line with an inter-governmental agreement under the treaty on military-technical cooperation. Colonel Andrei Lukyanovich, commander of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense, said back then that Minsk was waiting for further delivery of Russian arms.

The TOR-M2K will replace the old Soviet-made S-300 air defense missile systems which are in service with the 15th Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade. It is designed to engage a variety of aerial threats including aircraft, helicopters, drones, and cruise missiles.

The Tor-M2K air defense system is an export version of the Tor M2 based on a wheeled truck chassis. The air defense system is based on the Belarusian MZKT-6922 high mobility wheeled chassis in 6x6 configuration and replaced the GM-5955 tracked chassis of the standard Tor M2. The first TOR-M2K was delivered to the Belarus army in 2013.

The Tor-M2K is fitted with the same missile launcher station such as the standard TOR-M2 mounted on tracked armored chassis. It is equipped with two 9M334 missile launcher modules, each carrying four ready-to-fire 9М9331 missiles.

The Tor-M2K is capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously. The missile has a range of up to 12 km and an altitude of up to 10 km. It can be integrated with radar and other surveillance systems to provide a comprehensive air defense solution.
