Ukraine receives Israeli Red alert missile warning radars.

| 2023

According to Ami Rojkes Dombe in Israel Defense on May 8, the first images of an Israeli-made radar on Ukrainian soil have surfaced online. These are likely to be radars intended for the “Red Alert” detection system that Israel had committed to install in Ukraine as a humanitarian measure of defense against missile attacks. The transfer of such radar systems required the approval of the Israeli Ministry of Defense.

The Israeli Red Alert radar is a system designed to detect and alert Israeli citizens of incoming missile threats. The radar system is capable of detecting incoming missiles from a range of several hundred kilometers away, and can quickly determine their trajectory and estimated impact location. It uses a mix of radar and electro-optic devices to detect rocket, missile, and drone launches, classify the size and the threat they represent, and pinpoint on a map the areas that are in danger. The system will be connected to Ukraine’s radar monitoring, enabling faster and more accurate alerts to be delivered to mobile phone users, as well as activating air raid sirens only in affected areas.

The actual warning can take place through horns or via cell phone. The radar’s role is to alert that there is an imminent threat, as well as what kind of threat it is, where it will hit and when. When a missile is detected, the system sends out an alert to residents in the affected area through various means, such as sirens, mobile phone notifications, and TV and radio broadcasts. The alert system is designed to give people as much time as possible to take shelter and protect themselves from the incoming missile.

The Israeli Red Alert radar is a critical component of the country's missile defense system, which includes several other advanced technologies such as the Iron Dome missile defense system, the David's Sling missile defense system, and the Arrow missile defense system. These systems work together to provide a multi-layered defense against missile threats from various sources.
