Russia’s Eastern Military District will receive Orlan-10 and Takhion UAVs before the end of 2015.
Russia’s Eastern Military District will receive more than ten Orlan-10 and Takhion unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) before the end of 2015, District spokesman Colonel Alexander Gordeyev said on Tuesday, November 10, 2015.

"UAV units will operate new aircraft to monitor combat training and the state of military installations, as well as specify the terrain," Gordeyev said.

UAVs will arrive for UAV units in the Khabarovsk and the Primorye Territories, on the Kuril Islands and in Chukotka in the Russian Far East.

The UAVs are capable of visually controlling combat training and the state of military facilities, as well as specifying the type of the terrain.

The Orlan-10 UAV allows monitoring rough terrain and facilities located on it. It can be used to conduct search and rescue operations, including in mountainous areas. The Orlan-10 UAV has a take-off weight of 14 kilograms and a payload mass of up to five kilograms. The Orlan-10 UAV is equipped with a camera, a gyro-stabilized television camera and an infrared imager.

The Orlan-10 UAV has a cruising speed of 90-150 km/h (56-93 mph), an operational ceiling of 5,000 meters, flight endurance of 16 hours and a range of up to 120 kilometers (74.6 miles) from the ground control post and up to 600 kilometers (372.8 miles) in the self-contained operational mode.

The Orlan-10 UAV is equipped with a combustion engine. The Orlan-10 UAV takes off using a collapsible catapult and lands by parachute.

The Takhion UAV can stay aloft for up to two hours and transmit photo and video data to a distance of up to 40 kilometers (24.9 miles). The Takhion UAV is designed to operate in the Extreme North.

The Takhion UAV is furnished with a thermal imaging camera and a video camera. The Takhion UAV can be used at a wide range of latitudes and temperatures and in strong winds
