Ukrainian Inguar-3 MRAP Secures Its First Contracts After Successful Combat Trials.
Ukraine’s defense sector has reached a new milestone with the Inguar-3, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle developed by Kyiv-based Inguar Defence. Having completed extensive combat trials, this new MRAP has now secured its first contracts, underscoring Ukraine’s ongoing commitment to modernizing its fleet of armored vehicles.

Unlike many contemporary armored vehicles that often start with a civilian truck chassis, the Inguar-3 was designed entirely based on a strictly military specification to meet NATO protection standards. This “from-scratch” approach enabled the engineers at Inguar Defence to optimize every component based on precise criteria, such as ballistic resistance, explosion protection, crew compartment ergonomics, and off-road capabilities.
Following its evaluation by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense in 2023, the Inguar-3 underwent a rigorous testing program that totaled more than 10,000 kilometers in extreme conditions. These trials covered crossing muddy or rocky terrains, operating in widely varying climates—from subzero temperatures to extreme summer heat—along with simulated explosions and live-fire scenarios. The results confirmed not only the structural robustness and powertrain reliability but also the overall cockpit ergonomics in operational conditions.
Both the chassis and armored hull of the Inguar-3 were specifically designed to absorb and deflect the impact of explosions. The survival cell uses a modular, reinforced design that integrates ballistic steel plating as well as multilayer glass capable of withstanding projectiles and shrapnel. Conforming to STANAG 4569 level 3a/3b, the Inguar-3 can withstand 7.62×51 mm armor-piercing ammunition and 155 mm artillery fragments at a distance of 60 meters. With this level of protection, the crew is safeguarded against direct threats, such as enemy fire, and indirect threats, such as artillery shrapnel.
Classified as an MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle, the Inguar-3 is specifically designed to protect against mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Its floor, shaped like a V or sharply angled depending on the configuration, helps deflect the shock wave caused by an explosion beneath the vehicle, significantly reducing the force transmitted to the crew. The suspension and transmission are also reinforced to absorb heavy impacts and maintain high mobility over challenging terrains, whether muddy, gravelly, or snowy. The vehicle’s interior is equipped with anti-blast seats and specially designed mountings to limit injuries from explosive blasts, while the interior space is arranged to allow rapid evacuation in an emergency. Depending on the chosen version—troop transport, ambulance, or command post—the Inguar-3 can carry several crew members and a group of soldiers, along with the weaponry and equipment needed for combat.
Thanks to this innovative design and the 10,000 kilometers of demanding trials it has undergone, the Inguar-3 guarantees both mechanical reliability, advanced ballistic protection, and excellent mobility. It thus positions itself as a top choice for armed forces, enabling them to carry out missions in high-risk environments with optimal safety.
“This year has been marked by particularly demanding trials for our company,” said Artem Yushchuk, CEO and co-founder of Inguar Defence. “We approached these tests seriously, putting the Inguar-3 through very difficult conditions. In total, it covered around 10,000 kilometers of extreme testing.”
Despite this success, Yushchuk highlights the competitive realities of the defense sector: “We can produce more vehicles, but if new contracts are not signed at least every two months, the company’s sustainability is at risk.”
With growing demand, Ukraine is ramping up production of various armored vehicles, reflecting ongoing operational requirements. Inguar Defence thus faces competition from several domestic manufacturers increasing their output to meet front-line needs. Nonetheless, thanks to its proven performance and innovative drive, Inguar Defence hopes to expand its market presence.
Securing these initial contracts for the Inguar-3 comes at a critical moment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. As Ukraine continues to modernize its military equipment, vehicles like the Inguar-3 offer a promising combination of mobility and survivability, allowing troops to operate more effectively in high-risk environments.
