Since September 30, the Russian aircraft in Syria have flown 669 missions, nearly 400 of them in the past week, Colonel-General Andrei Kartapolov, head of the General Staff chief operations directorate, told Friday, October 16, 2015, at the briefing for foreign military attaches and journalists.

""Since the beginning of the campaign on September 30, the Russian Air Forces have flown 669 combat missions, 115 of them at night," he said.
The general noted that in the past week alone the Russian pilots have flown 394 missions. The situation in Syria has changed dramatically over the past week, primarily due to the Russian airstrikes, Kartapolov stated. He said that in the past week alone the raids have destroyed 46 command and communications posts, six explosive manufacturing facilities and workshops, 22 various fuel and lubricants supply depots and their equipment plus 272 sites of militant amassments, fortifications and camps. According to Kartapolov, the Russian airstrikes have disturbed the IS terrorist group infrastructure in the Syrian provinces of Idlib, Aleppo, Holm and northern districts of Latakia. He stressed that the terrorists gave up erecting large depots of fuel, arms and ammunition. "The militants redistribute their forces, seeking refuge in an adverse mountainous and wooded terrain, the so-called green zones and in populated areas," the general noted. Last week, General Ali Aiyub declared a beginning of a massive advance of the Syrian armed forces. The military was reported to have scored a number of victories, including in Hama province. On Thursday, an offensive began north of the town of Homs. Since September 30, the Russian aircraft have been striking at the terrorist facilities in Syria, operating at the request of Syrian President Bashar Assad. The group of Aerospace Forces in that country comprises more than 50 planes and helicopters. In addition, strikes have been delivered by the Caspian Flotilla missile ships. Earlier today, General Kartapolov declared that the Russian ships in the Mediterranean Sea can be used any moment to deliver more strikes. However, Russia does not plan to participate in the ground operation in Syria. |
