Lithuania stands out as one of Ukraine's most loyal allies among the Baltic states. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, Lithuania has assisted equivalent to 2% of its GDP, surpassing one billion euros in total aid. The country has also committed to allocating 0.25% of its GDP annually to continue supporting Ukraine's war effort.

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Lithuania has progressively intensified its military support to Kyiv, addressing the critical needs of the Ukrainian armed forces. In January 2024, Lithuania approved a significant military aid package worth 200 million euros. Among the major contributions were air defense systems, such as two NASAMS launchers, FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS, and Bofors L70 anti-aircraft guns, which have been gradually delivered since February 2023.

Air support was also bolstered with the delivery of two Mi-8 helicopters before August 2023, followed by a light training aircraft, the Aero L-39ZA Albatros, in April 2024. Artillery played a crucial role in the supplies, with the delivery of 18 M101 105mm towed howitzers as early as September 2022, and 12 Panzermörser M113 120mm self-propelled mortars in November of the same year. Heavy 120mm mortars had already been sent in April 2022.

Lithuania also delivered armored vehicles, such as 72 M113 and M577 APCs starting in June 2022, with further deliveries in 2024, including 14 additional M113s in June and new APCs in September. Various types of vehicles, ranging from military trucks to all-terrain vehicles, have also been provided, alongside initiatives such as the repair of Ukrainian Leopard tanks in collaboration with the German defense industry.

Small arms have made up another significant part of Lithuania’s aid, with the delivery of 23,000 automatic rifles and machine guns, as well as grenades and grenade launchers, starting in March 2022. In terms of ammunition, Lithuania has supplied millions of rounds, including for small arms and 155mm artillery shells for the PzH 2000.

Finally, drones, partially funded through crowdfunding campaigns, have also been handed over to Ukraine. This includes a Bayraktar TB2 drone, several Warmate kamikaze drones, and anti-drone jamming systems like the EDM4S Sky Wiper. This diverse support demonstrates Lithuania’s strong and ongoing commitment to defending Ukraine against Russian aggression.
