"The modernization of the Tigr is based on the combat experience gained during the counter-terrorism operation in Syria," the source said.
According to him, the upgraded LUV is called ASN-233115 Tigr-M SpN (SpN for Special Forces, Spetsialnogo Naznacheniya). "Like the baseline Tigr, the modernized vehicle is intended for reconnaissance, escort, patrol, and fire support missions," the source said.
The ASN-233115 features a monocoque welded three-door hull that provides Level 1 STANAG 4569 protection against 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm bullets. The vehicle weighs some 8,000 kg and transports a payload of 1,200 kg or six fully equipped soldiers with individual weapons. "The vehicle can carry additional armaments, such as 6P41 Pecheneg 7.62 mm general-purpose machineguns or AGS-30 30 mm tripod-mounted automatic grenade launchers," the source said.
The ASN-233115 is powered by a 215hp YaMZ-5347-10 multifuel turbocharged diesel engine, producing a maximum speed of 120 km/h and a road range of 1,000 km.
The upgraded Tigr vehicle features a larger ground clearance than that of the baseline car and has a protected engine compartment. "The upgraded Tigr-M is equipped with anti-blast seats that increase the survivability of the crew and dismounts. The windshield and windows of the vehicle can be reinforced with steel cages. The modernized Tigr also carries an updated waterproof and dustproof snorkel, panoramic camera with all-round view, and xenon lights," the source said.
During the counter-terrorism operation in Syria, the baseline Tigr light utility vehicle has demonstrated its robust performance in terms of protection, reliability, usability, and maneuverability, the source said.
It should be mentioned that the Tigr is the organic 4x4 LUV of the Russian Armed Forces.
The VPK is being developed the second generation of the Tigr vehicle under the Atlet (Athlete) program. "We are planning to unveil the prototype of the Tigr-Atlet multipurpose LUV in 2019. The first trials of the vehicle are scheduled for the same year," the source said.
The VPK now offers to potential customers two variants of the Tigr LUV, namely, the AMN-233114 Tigr-M (M for Upgraded, Modernizirovanniy) and ASN-233115 Tigr-M SpN.
