The Barkan is a medium-sized UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) fully designed and manufactured by the Turkish company HAVELSAN to offer a new generation of a multirole robotic platform that can be configured to perform a wide range of missions.
The Barkan can be also used as a combat robotic platform armed with a remotely operated weapon station armed with one 7.62mm machine gun. Today, HAVELSAN also successfully completed a firing test with its Barkan UGV armed with the METE laser-guided missile developed by the Turkish company Roketsan.
The Barkan UGV is electrically powered and can reach a top speed of 25 km/h with an endurance of up to 6 hours. It has a length of 3.2 m, a width of 1.75 m, and weighs 1,400 kg with a maximum payload of 600 kg.
The METE Laser-Guided Mini Missile System was unveiled by Roketsan in November 2021. It can be launched from 40-millimeter new-generation grenade launchers offering a greater range of fire and more accuracy than existing conventional grenade launchers.
The METE UGV can be controlled manually or in autonomous mode using an onboard GPS communication system at a maximum range of 5 km. The vehicle is also equipped with day/night vision, GSM and satellite communication systems, and an upgradeable perimeter surveillance system with a 5 km line of sight.
With a mini seeker and a mini control drive system, METE is directed toward the target marked by a laser pointer, providing effective strike power against light structures, unarmored ground vehicles, unprotected targets such as possible sniper positions, and targets of opportunity.
The METE Laser-Guided Mini Missile System can be easily integrated into the turrets of mini Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Unmanned Land Vehicles (ULV), and Unmanned Marine Vehicles (UMV) thanks to its lightweight and small size.
The 40 mm Mete missile has an effective range of one kilometer and a circular error probability of one meter or less.
