According a video footage published by the Russian Television, the new Uragan-1M MLRS (Multiple launch Rocket System) was used by soldiers of a military academy in the Leningrad Region. In September 2016, Russia`s Ministry of Defense has announced the delivery of Uragan-1M to the Russian armed forces.

According to our first analysis of the video, the Uragan-1M is a new multiple launch rocket system totally different from the previous version BM-27 Uragan which was designed in the early 1970s, with development being completed in 1975.
The new Uragan-1M is based on 8x8 military truck chassis MZKT-7930 developed in Belarus early 1990s. The forward control cab of the MZKT-7930 accommodates driver and two passengers. The Uragan-1M is fitted with two launchers pods each containing two layers of three rockets ready to fire, so giving a total of 12 launch tubes. mounted at the rear of the truck chassis. The rocket launcher station is mounted on a turntable at the rear of the truck chassis with powered elevation and traverse.
The new Uragan-1M is able to fire rockets of 220mm and 300mm designed for BM-30 Smerch, using different types of rockets container. In addition, the Uragan-1M is fully automated, and reloading is made by a simple substitution of the barrels. The system is designed to destroy troops, armor, artillery units, air defense systems, helicopters on heli-pads, destroying fortifications, communications and other infrastructure. |
