The vehicle has also is own unmanned aerial systems that can be used to perform reconnaissance missions. This UAV is attached to the right side of the tank when it is not in use.
For its self-protection, the roof of the BTR-3KS is equipped with a remotely operated weapon station armed with one 12.7mm heavy machine gun. Three smoke grenade dischargers are mounted on each side of the main armament. The left side of the turret is fitted with thermal imaging sight and laser range finder.
Like the BTR-3, the BTR-3KS has a hull of all-welded steel armor construction that provides protection against firing of small arms and artillery shell splinters. The vehicle has a crew of nine including commander and driver located at the front of the hull. Both the commander and driver have a window to their front which is covered in combat by an armoured hatch cover hinged at the top.
To improve the comfort of the vehicle, the BTR-3KS is fitted with individual seats for each member of the crew. The vehicle is also equipped with new modern air conditioning system.
The BTR-3KS uses same chassis and powerpack as for the original BTR-3. It can run at a maximum road speed of 85 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km.
