The batch production of new Zauralets-D 120mm self-propelled gun (SPG), being developed for the Airborne Forces (AbF), may start by the end of 2018, according to the AbF chief, Colonel-General Vladimir Shamanov. The new Zauralets-D 120mm self-propelled gun (SPG) is based on the 2S25M Sprut-SDM1 air-droppable self-propelled anti-tank gun (SPATG).

"We have designed four levels of the program (Zauralets-D), based on the report by the TSNIITOCHMASH director general Dmitrii Semizorov. We are planning to get a high-precision munition at the final level. The time schedule for the whole program is supposed to be two or three years. I think, that we will have reached the final stage by the end of 2018. Then we will launch the batch production (of Zauralets-D)", Shamanov said.

He pointed out, that two Zauralets-D prototypes should be assembled at the beginning of the first quarter of 2017.

"After the briefing with deputy Defense Minister Yury Borisov we will be developing the road map, where the issues of all further stages of the program will be reviewed", Shamanov added.

Zauralets-D SPG is being developed on the base of 2S25M Sprut-SDM1 air-droppable self-propelled anti-tank gun (SPATG). For the SPG TSNIITOCHMASH is making two types of main gun chambered for different shells, namely, 120mm and 152mm. Their ranges and projectile power will be increased, as compared to the actual artillery equipment. Zauralets-D SPG is intended to replace 2S9 Nona-S guns in the Russian Airborne troops.
