Russian official arms exporter Rosoboronexport unveiled the Orlan-10E unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) at the 14th Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA 2017) exhibition in Malaysia. A source in the arms trade sphere has told TASS that "a marketing campaign to promote the Orlan-10E unmanned aerial vehicles on foreign markets" was launched at LIMA 2017.

"The presentation of the Orlan-10E at LIMA 2017 was due to the requests from a number of countries as to the purchase of aircraft of the type," the expert added.
According to him, the Orlan-10E, which was offered for export, features a high degree of commonality with its baseline model Orlan-10 in service with the Russian Armed Forces. "There are certain differences between the Orlan-10 and Orlan-10E UAVS but they are insignificant. The export-cleared Orlan-10E is a derivative of the Orlan-10 that has been tested under the harsh conditions of the Syrian theater of war, proving itself as a very effective performer. This matters much when foreign customers make up their mind on buying drones able to conduct electro-optical, signal and electronic intelligence," the expert emphasized. Previously, Rosoboronexport Deputy Director General Sergei Goreslavsky had told TASS: "Foreign customers have been increasingly keen on the Orlan-10E aircraft that performed superbly in the Russian Aerospace Force’s operation in Syria and on a number of other unmanned aircraft systems, e.g. the Takhion and Granat-4." "We are in detailed negotiations with several countries on selling them Russian drones, with interest in the latter being on the rise," Goreslavsky said. According to him, "for years, Russia has had to catch up with foreign unmanned aerial system manufacturers. However, Russian developers have reversed the trend of events and the number of their products rivaling the best foreign analogs is growing." |

The Orlan-10E UAV is 1.8 m long and has a wingspan of 3.1 m, a takeoff weight of 18 kg, a payload of 5 kg, a speed of 70-180 km/h, an endurance of 15 h and a maximum altitude of 6,000 m.
The aircraft is powered by a petrol engine and is capable of operating within the -30°C…+40°C temperature bracket. It maintains comms with its control post at a distance of 150 km. Its data link allows a transfer rate of 10Mbps. The UAV’s payload may include a still or video camera, a stabilized TV camera, an infrared camera with all-round coverage, or electronic equipment. A single ground-based control station controls up to 16 Orlan-10E UAVs in flight at the same time. |
