Russian defense industry unveils new Sprut-SDM1 tracked armoured tank destoyer at Army-2015.
At Army-2015, the first edition of the International Military-Technical Forum and Exhibition which was held near Moscow from the 16 to 19 June 2015, Russian defense industry has unveiled the Sprut-SDM1, a new modernized version of the 2S25 Sprut-SD, a self-propelled tank destroyer.

The Sprut-SD was designed to offer a new light tank for the Russian airborne troops able to destroy main battle tanks and armoured vehicles.

The 2S25 Sprut-SD is equipped with a two man turret armed with a 125 mm anti-tank gun. The gun is fitted with an autoloader, which ensures high rate of fire of 6-8 rounds per minute with both conventional projectiles and rounds with guided missiles

The first version of the 2S25 Sprut-SD was based on a chassis using the technology of BMD-3 / BMD-4 airborne infantry armoured vehicle, the new version, the Sprut-SDM1 uses components of the BMD-4M chassis as well as the same engine.

The main armament of the Sprut-SDM1 is the same as the previous version, but the vehicle is fitted with a new fire control system and new panoramic sight mounted to the rear top side of the turret. The panoramic sight is similar to the system used on the T-90MS main battle tank. The gunner is equipped with anew firing sight with thermal channel and automatic tracking system.

The second armament of the Sprut-SDM-1 includes now a new remote weapon station armed with a 7.62mm machine gun mounted at the top left rear part of the turret.

According some Russian sources, the production of the new Sprut-SDM1 could be started in the beginning of 2018.
