"The crews are training to transition to the advanced vehicle," the officer added. The RKhM-6 is a derivative of the BTR-80 armored personnel carrier. It is dual-hatted as a radiological and chemical reconnaissance station and a rapid test laboratory. The vehicle is equipped to have the results of tests to be radioed to higher headquarters in automatic mode.
Within a minute, the RKhM-6 crew can detect vapors of chemical agents and hazardous substances in an area exceeding 10 km·, Kochetkov said. To do so, the crew does not have to exit the vehicle, because the in-built instruments perform all relevant measurements. In addition, the RKhM-6 is equipped with a satellite navigation receiver with the all-weather automatic positioning capability. RKhM-6 is equipped with the space navigation systems, which provide all-weather automatic vehicle positioning and ensure data exchange between reconnaissance devices and command control centers. In addition, RKhM-6 can detect and determine the presence of toxic substances in the environment, moving at a speed of 20-50 km/h in accordance with the degree and complexity of contamination. |
