Russian Armed Forces will bring the new TMM-3M2 heavy mechanized bridgelayer into service before the year-end, according to a source in the local defense industry.

"The Galichsky Truck Cranes Plant ('Galichanin', Russian acronym: GAKZ) exhibited over 100 pieces of military hardware during the recent visit of the Engineer Troops` top officers to Murom. The enterprise unveiled the newest TMM-3M2 heavy mechanized bridgelayer. The Director General of the GAKZ personally demonstrated vehicle to the Commander of the Service, Lieutenant General Yury Stavitsky. The GAKZ enterprise is going to exhibit the system at the Army 2016 military-technical forum in September 2016. The TMM-3M2 bridgelayer will be brought into service with Russian Armed Forces before the year-end," the official spokeperson of the GAKZ said. The TMM-3M2 bridgelayer is the latest development of the TMM-3M system. It has a total length of 42 m and a lifting capacity of 60 t. The bridgelayer comprises four folding sections 10.5 m each. TMM-3M2 is based on four KAMAZ heavy trucks. The TMM series is a truck launched bridge which was developed to allow military forces to cross water obstacle. The first TMM consisted of four 10.5 m spans, each of which is carried and launched from the rear of a modified KrAZ-214 (6 × 6) 7,000 kg truck or the more recent KrAZ-255B (6 × 6) 7,500 kg truck. |
