Hungarian troops with BTR-80A APC armoured personnel carrier are deployed in Estonia.
An Infantry unit of Hungarian armed forces arrived in Estonia, Sunday, July 2, 2017 to perform joint military training exercises with the the 2nd Infantry Brigade of the Estonian Defence Force. The Hungarian soldiers come from the 1st Mechanized Battalion of the 25th Klapka György Infantry Brigade of the Hungarian Defence Force.

The Hungarian troops will stay for three months in the country according an agreement of the Visegrád Group, consisting of Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.
 

The planned training exercises include cooperation with units of the 2nd Infantry Brigade of Estonian Army. The Hungarian soldiers will familiarize with Estonia’s territory and the Estonian army barracks.

This Hungarian unit is equipped with Soviet-made BTR-80A 8x8 armoured vehicle personnel carrier that have been sent by rail to Estonia. A total of 178 BTR-80A are in service with the Hungarian armed forces.

The BTR-80A 8x8 armored personnel carrier is designed and manufactured by the Russian Company Arzamas machinery Construction Plant of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, is intended to carry personnel on the battlefield and provide close fire support.

The BTR-80A is fitted with a one-man turret armed with a 30mm 2A72 automatic cannon and one 7.62 mm PKTM machine gun mounted coaxially to the right of the main armament.
