Description
At IDEX 2013, the International Defence Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, the Defence Company Streit Group unveiled a new 6x6 amphibious armored vehicle, the Varan. This vehicle represents the latest innovations and technologies for a wheeled tactical armored vehicle with advanced ballistic and blast protection. With its superior mobility, the Varan gets crew moving across threatening terrain in the most risky conditions, making it the single most effective counter to IEDs.

- The Streit Group Varan 6x6 amphibious armored vehicle can be configured to be used as Command and Control, Reconnaissance, radar, support, NBC, EOD, Patrol, Forward Observation, Med-EVAC vehicle, and more.

Armament |
The Streit Group Varan 6x6 amphibious vehicle can be equipped with a roof-mounted rotating weapon station which can be armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun 12.7mm machine gun, or an automatic grenade launcher. The Varan can be fitted with a remotely controlled weapon station. At IDEX 2013, an FN Herstal deFNder® Medium Remote Weapon Station armed with a .50 caliber (12.7mm) FN M3R heavy machine gun was mounted on the vehicle.

Design and protection |
The Streit Group Varan 6x6 amphibious armored vehicle is built to withstand ballistic arms fire, mine blasts, IEDs, and other emerging threats. The vehicle features a V-shape hull which provides high protection against mine blast for the crew and equipment. The hull of the vehicle is protected at the Level 4 STANAG 4569, the firing of small rams 14.5mm AP caliber, 155mm shell splinters, and 10 kg of explosives. In option, the vehicle can be fitted with additional ceramic and composite add-on armor plates. The engine is mounted at the front of the vehicle, with the crew and troop compartment at the rear. The Varan offers seating for 10 people, including the driver, commander, and 8 passengers. In the rear of the hull is a large door that opens to the left, with a vision block in its upper part.

Mobility |
The Streit Group Varan 6x6 amphibious armored vehicle is powered by a V6 Cummins engine gives it power to cross the most difficult and hostile terrains. The Varan can negotiate a 60% gradient and 40% side slope. |
Combat Equipment |
A varied range of equipment specific to the mission can be accommodated through this loading bay and can also be re-configured according to mission requirements, thereby proving its versatility. The Varan is fitted with a central tyre inflation system. In option, the Streit Group Varan 6x6 amphibious armored vehicle can be equipped with video surveillance and monitoring systems, laser range finder, auxiliary power unit, automatic or manual fire suppression system, UHF/VHF radio equipment, self-recovery winch, GPS, and more. |
