Description
Warthog is a modified and better protected version of the Singapore Army Bronco. In December 2008, ST Kinetics was awarded a £150 million contract by the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence for over 100 Bronco All Terrain Tracked Carriers for use in Afghanistan. The vehicles, to be known as Warthog in British service, will replace Vikings currently being operated in southern Afghanistan by the British military and are being procured as part of a £700 million package of Urgent Operational Requirements recently announced by Defence Secretary John Hutton. Deliveries will commence in the third quarter of 2009, with the majority being delivered in 2010. The Warthog is able to operate in a range of environments including the Green Zone and desert areas of Afghanistan. Warthog with its associated communications, ECM suite, mine blast protection, load carriage, crew served weapon system and increased tactical mobility & range will be a considerable enhancement to elements of ground maneuver capability in Afghanistan.

Armament
The Warthog is equipped with a crew served weapon system. This provides them with a protected weapon station from which the commander will be able to quickly deliver fire on either the 7.62mm General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) or 0.5 Calibre Heavy Machine Gun (HMG). The mount allows accurate, suppressive fire out to 1000m allowing for effective self defence or the provision of fire support when required. The front cabin of the Warthog is equipped with two range of four smoke-grenades dischargers.
Design and protection
The Warthog consists of two fully armoured units, front and rear, connected by a specially designed hydraulic articulated joint that features two steering cylinders and two damping cylinders. The hull of the Warthog is made in steel which provide a protection against 7.62 mm small arms fire and shell splinters. In the British army, the vehicle is also equipped with an enhanced modular passive protection package and wire cage. The front of the vehicle is equipped with two large bulletproof windows There are two entry doors in either front side of the hull with a bulletproof window in the upper part. The bulletproof windows provide the same level of protection as the hull. The second unit of the Warthog is equipped with a large rear door. The Warthog can carry 16 soldiers including the driver and the commander.
Propulsion
The Warthog is motorized with an electronically-controlled Caterpillar 3126B 350 hp diesel engine coupled to an Allison MD3560P automatic transmission. The Warthog has a load carrying capacity of up to 5 tonnes and is capable of a top speed of 60 km/h on the road and at 25 km/h on cross-country terrain. The suspension is of the rubber bush type with the front and rear unit having six lightweight dual road wheels either side with the drive sprocket at the front and two track return rollers. A mechanical track tensioner is fitted as standard. To save weight the road wheels and drive sprockets are of reinforced plastic.
Accessories
The Warthog is equipped with an upgraded cooling and filtration system, Bowman BCIP 5 communications fit, mine blast protection and Electronic Counter Measures (ECM). The Warthog is fully amphibious being propelled in the water by its tracks at a maximum speed of 4.5 km/h without any preparation apart from activating the two electrically operated bilge pumps in the front and rear units.
