Description
The Rila is a tactical armored in the category of MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle designed and manufactured by the Company IAG (International Armored Group), an international armored vehicles manufacturer with facilities in the United States, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Bulgaria, United Kingdom, Iraq, and Pakistan. The Rila was unveiled in London (UK), at the DSEI defense exhibition in September 2017. With the increased demand for lighter, more mobile and faster tactical armored vehicles offering a higher level of protection, IAG Company continues to develop and expand its product range while implementing the latest in armor technologies and responding to the new requests of military and security forces from all over the world. The Rila is the biggest MRAP Vehicle that IAG offers in its range of wheeled tactical vehicles offering a high level of protection against ballistic and mine threats. According to IAG, the Company has already received some orders to provide the Rila to an undisclosed customer with the first delivery in the second half of 2017.
Rila 4x4 MRAP variants:
- Available configurations of the Rila MRAP include a military ambulance package, riot-control package, and high payload package for cargo transport.
- The Rila is available in LHD (Left Hand Drive) or RHD (Right Hand Drive) configurations as well as 4x4 & 6x6 drive trains.

Armament |
The RILA 4x4 MRAP can be fitted with a one-man open-top turret mounted on the roof of the vehicle that can be armed with a machine gun up to 12.7mm caliber. This turret can be fitted with armor plates with bulletproof windows all around. This turret is manually controlled and has a traverse of 360°. The vehicle can be also equipped with a remotely operated weapon station that allows a gunner to remain in protection under the armor of the vehicle. This type of turret can be armed with a similar weapon such as the manual turret.

Design and protection |
The Rila 4x4 MRAP design features three main parts with the engine at the front, the crew in the middle, and the troops compartment at the rear. The front of the crew cabin has two large bulletproof windows and one single door on each side of the hull. The vehicle can accommodate up to 12 fully geared military personnel, including a driver, commander, and 10 soldiers. The infantrymen enter and leave the vehicle via a single door located at the rear of the hull which is also fitted with three small bulletproof windows. Each side of the hull is provided with five small bulletproof windows with firing ports in the lower part enabling the troops to aim and fire with their individual weapons from inside of the vehicle. The Rila MRAP use a monocoque structure with a body shell built up from steel armor plates, rather than attaching them to a frame. It features a special lightweight armor package designed to minimize the curb weight and maximize mobility and off-road mobility. It offers ballistic protection up to Level IV STANAG 4569 against the firing of small arms 7.62mm armor-piercing bullets, as well as 12.7mm armor-piercing rounds, 14.5mm rounds. For mine, protection, the vehicle has V-hull shaped floor to increase crew survivability by deflecting the blast of a land mine or IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) away from the vehicle. The Rila has a mine protection STANAG 4569 up to Level 4a, it can withstand a blast of 8 kg anti-tank mine under any wheel or 10 kg under the center of the hull. The Rila has a maximum combat weight of 18,000 kg with a maximum payload of 4,500 kg.

Mobility |
The Rila 4x4 MRAP is based on an Iveco Trakker truck chassis powered by a 12.8 Liter turbocharged 6 cylinders diesel engine producing 380HP @1900rpm and 1900Nm of torque @ 1435rpm coupled to an automatic transmission. The heavy-duty suspension and drive train maximize the off-road capabilities of the vehicle while providing a smooth on-road ride. |
Accessories |
Standard equipment of the Rila 4x4 MRAP includes a white searchlight mounted on the roof of the crew cabin, wire mesh for all lights, auxiliary fans, elevated gunner stand, automatic engine fire suppression system, electrical system upgrade to 24V and 360° surveillance system including outside cameras all-around the hull with a video screen and DVR (Digital Video Recorder) inside of the vehicle. The infantrymen are seated on individual grade certified mine blast attenuation seats facing inward with headrests and 5 points harnesses. |
