| The Terrier is a lightly armoured highly mobile, general support engineer vehicle optimised for battlefield preparation in the indirect fire zone. The TERRIER is an agile, capable and air-transportable general support engineer vehicle with a wide variety of early entry, combat support and post-conflict roles. The Terrier is designed and manufactured by the International Defense Company BAE Systems. These include obstacle and mine clearance, digging-in equipment and troops, route opening and maintenance, and general engineer tasks. It enhances the force commander’s capability to fix and strike the enemy whilst helping to protect his own combat power. Following a competition, in 2002 BAE Systems was awarded a contract for the design, development and production of the new and more capable TERRIER Manoeuvre Support Vehicle (MSV). The first prototype of TERRIER was rolled out at the Land Systems Leicester systems integration facility in mid-2005 and has since been engaged in a demanding series of trials at various locations in the UK. The first Teriler was delivered to the British Army in June 2006. Sixty vehicles are being delivered under the programme which are being built in Newcastle. The final vehicle will be delivered to the British Army by January 2014, five months ahead of schedule. |
