SCAR-H Assault Rifle 7.62mm
Assault Rifle 7.62mm
FN SCAR-H STD / CQC / PR / TPR FN Herstal - Belgium
Description
The Belgian firearms company FN Herstal designed and developed a full range of assault rifles including the FN SCAR-H assault rifle 7.62mm chambered to fire 7.62x51 mm NATO caliber ammunition. Originally, the FN SCAR family was developed by FN Herstal for the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) to satisfy the requirements of the SCAR (Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifles) competition. The effective range, depending on the barrel length, can reach up to 600 meters. FN Herstal further developed two precision rifles based on the design of the FN SCAR-H: the FN SCAR-H PR, and the FN SCAR-H TPR. Both rifles have an effective range of 800 meters.
Assault Rifle 7.62mm FN SCAR-H variants:
- FN SCAR-H STD: Standard with 406.4 mm (16") barrel length
- FN SCAR-H CQC: Close Quarters Combat with 330.2 mm (13") barrel length
- FN SCAR-H PR: Precision Rifle with 406.4 mm (16”) barrel length
- FN SCAR-H PR: Precision Rifle with 508 mm (20") barrel length
- FN SCAR-H TPR: Tactical Precision Rifle with 406.4 mm (16”) barrel length
- FN SCAR-H TPR: Tactical Precision Rifle with 508 mm (20 ") barrel length
Technical Data
Design |
The FN SCAR-H assault rifle 7.62mm follows the common design of the FN SCAR family using massively polymer and aluminum components. It features a free-floating cold hammer-forged MIL-SPEC barrels with a chrome-lined bore. Two barrel lengths are available: 13" (330.2 mm) and 16" (406.4 mm). The FN SCAR-H assault rifle features an extended top MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail integrated to the monolithic aluminum receiver. Additional Picatinny rails are mounted on each side at the front of the weapon, as well as under the barrel. The FN SCAR-H is fitted an ambidextrous 3-position safety selector that can be easily manipulated with the thumb of the firing hand. With the safety selector in the “S” position, the rifle is in the “on safe” position. With the safety selector in the “1” position, the rifle is ready to fire one shot. In the “A” position, the FN SCAR-H can fire in fully automatic mode.

Magazine and ammunition |
The FN SCAR-H assault rifle 7.62mm is designed to operate with NATO spec 7.62x51mm or 308 Winchester caliber ammunition. It has a magazine capacity of 20 cartridges. A 10-round option magazine is available. The magazine can be removed from the weapon thanks to an ambidextrous magazine release. With this release, both right- and left-hand shooters can get faster, easier reloads while keeping the rifle on target. The 7.62×51mm NATO is a rimless bottlenecked rifle cartridge designed and developed by FN Herstal in the 1950s to replace different types of infantry ammunition used by the various NATO member states. This became the first NATO standard caliber for small arms in 1957. Although not identical, the 7.62×51mm NATO and the commercial .308 Winchester caliber are similar enough to be loaded in rifles chambered for the other round, but the Winchester .308 cartridges are typically loaded to higher pressures than 7.62×51mm NATO service cartridges. The FN SCAR-H can fire all types of 7.62mm ammunition.

Key Features |
The FN SCAR-H assault rifle 7.62mm features a foldable buttstock, which provides a more compact weapon package in aircraft and vehicle deployments. The buttstock can be folded to the right thanks to a lock button located on the left side. When the buttstock is folded, it is still possible to shoot and operate. The standard FN SCAR buttstock module is adjustable for length of pull (LOP) and cheek rest height to allow the stock to be adjusted to fit the gear of the operator. The buttstock is adjustable in length with six positions, numbered from 1 to 6. Each adjustment is equal to .50” for a total of 2.50" of LOP adjustment. The cheek rest is adjustable with 2 positions. Additional buttstock configurations are available on request. The FN SCAR-H rifle includes rear and front iron sights that are fully adjustable and foldable. A full range of accessories can be mounted on the top receiver (scopes) and side and lower Picatinny rails (such as red dot sight, flashlight, bipod, vertical grip). 40mm grenade launcher The FN SCAR-H assault rifle 7.62mm can be equipped with the FN40GL 40mm grenade launcher. The FN40GL attaches quickly and easily to the bottom rail of either FN SCAR rifles with dual locking clamp levers on the launcher. Both triggers can be pulled without changing hand positions. Firing all types of 40x46mm NATO standard low-velocity grenades with an effective range of approx. 350 meters (depending on the ammunition), the FN40GL® can also be configured as a stand-alone launcher using a specific buttstock assembly. Completely ambidextrous, the FN40GL® uses an aluminum receiver mated to an aluminum barrel for durability and lightweight. The barrel pivots left or right for ease of loading. The grenade retention makes reloading possible in any position. The grenade case is automatically ejected. The weapon can also accept the FN® FCU Mk.3 fire control unit that greatly increases first-round hit probability when firing 40mm grenades. |
