Browne, who got this post recently, was commenting on the agenda of the 11th meeting of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission for military-technical cooperation to be held in Moscow on October 4-5.

The co-chairmen, Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony and his Russian counterpart Anatoly Serdyukov will discuss the FGFA issue among the priority ones, he said. This contract remained at a preliminary stage for a long time, but in 2012, when talks on the next practical development stage begin, both sides will have to make stronger efforts to promote the project, he said.

Browne said the talks will also deal with the opening in Moscow of the Indian Air Force's representative office and the offices of Indian companies and organizations involved in the joint project - Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Defense Research and Development Organization - to monitor its implementation.

In a rough estimate, the Indian Air Force could start flying the first batch of super-modern fighter jets from 2017, although much will depend on the testing, he said.

The 11th meeting of the Russian-Indian commission will open in Moscow on Tuesday, a Defense Ministry spokesman told Interfax-AVN. "It will discuss bilateral military-technical cooperation,"" he said.
