Morocco publicly revealed its decision to acquire the AH-64E Apache in June 2020, becoming the 17th country to choose this attack helicopter. The contract with Boeing outlines the production of 24 E-model Apaches for Morocco, with deliveries expected to begin in 2024.

The AH-64E Apache, the latest iteration of this well-known attack helicopter, features an open systems architecture, integrating communications, navigation, sensor, and weapon systems. Key enhancements include the Modernized Target Acquisition Designation System, providing comprehensive day, night, and all-weather target information, along with improved night vision navigation capability. The Fire Control Radar has been upgraded to operate effectively in maritime environments, broadening the Apache's operational versatility.

In terms of technical specifications, the AH-64E Apache accommodates a standard crew of two, with a length of approximately 14.68 m, a height of about 4.72 m, and a rotor diameter of around 14.63 m. The helicopter's primary mission gross weight is approximately 6,838 kg, and it boasts a maximum operating weight of around 10,432 kg. With a maximum rate of climb exceeding 853 m per minute and a maximum level flight speed surpassing 279 km/h, the Apache is equipped for diverse operational scenarios. Armament includes 16 Hellfire missiles, 76 2.75-inch rockets, and a 30 mm chain gun with a rate of fire ranging from 600 to 650 rounds per minute.

Morocco's decision to integrate the AH-64E Apache aligns with broader efforts to modernize its combat aviation capabilities. The Royal Moroccan Air Force, currently without a dedicated attack helicopter, relies on aging Aérospatiale SA342L Gazelle helicopters in the light attack role.
