Focus : Truth thanks Osint Satellite photos reveal damages to Russian airfields after a drone attack..

Satellite images have been published showing the aftermath of Ukrainian drone strikes on two of the four Russian airfields targeted on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. The Ukrainian General Staff confirmed on Wednesday that Kyiv's forces had struck four airfields in the Russian regions of Voronezh, Kursk, and Nizhny Novgorod: the airfields of Khalino, Savasleyka, Borisoglebsk, and Baltimore, which host Russian military aviation, particularly Su-34 fighter-bombers, Su-35 fighter jets, and other Russian military aviation equipment, with some sources mentioning the Mig-31k carrying hypersonic Kinzhal missiles.

Schemes, the Ukrainian investigative unit of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty funded by the United States, released satellite imagery from California-based global imaging company Planet Labs showing "the consequences of Ukrainian drone strikes" on the military airfield of Borisoglebsk. The unit noted that Ukrainian drones struck the northwest part of Borisoglebsk airfield, destroying several hangars. This airfield is used by the Russian Air Force, and notably hosts Su-25, Su-30, Su-34, and Su-35 aircraft.

Open-source intelligence analyst MT Anderson shared satellite photos on X, formerly known as Twitter, showing the aftermath of a Ukrainian drone strike on the Savasleyka airbase in the Nizhny Novgorod region, which houses Russian Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. It is noted that only minor damages are visible at this base, with two fire trucks near the probable ammunition depot likely there to extinguish a fire. There is a burned area near the taxiway, but no damages can be discerned. Russian military analyst Ian Matveev shared on X images that would show the moment Savasleyka was hit.

These attacks are part of one of the largest drone attacks carried out by Kyiv on Russian soil to date since the beginning of the war. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated on Wednesday that its air defenses destroyed 117 drones and four missiles: 37 drones and four missiles over the Kursk region, where a Ukrainian incursion is ongoing; 37 drones over the Voronezh region; 17 drones over the Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine; 11 drones over the Nizhny Novgorod region; nine drones over the Volgograd region; three drones over the Bryansk region; two drones over the Orel region; and one drone over the southern Rostov region.

Ukraine frequently targets Russian air bases as part of the war, which began in February 2022. Kyiv has stated that Russian military bases are legitimate targets in the conflict and that its forces regularly attack them using long-range drones. Attacks on Russian soil are typically claimed by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR).
