Operating from its Swedish facilities, Elbit Systems will oversee the deployment, integration, maintenance, and upgrades of C2 systems. These improvements will extend across various operational elements, including command centers, vehicular systems, and dismounted configurations.
Tobias Wennberg, the General Manager of Elbit Systems Sweden AB, hailed the contract as a monumental milestone for the company. Concurrently, Haim Delmar, the General Manager of Elbit System C4I and Cyber, emphasized the company's commitment to expanding its technological capabilities in Sweden. "This contract strengthens our position as a key technology collaborator with the FMV and the Swedish Armed Forces, contributing to their journey toward digitization," Wennberg stated.
The C2 system, or Command and Control, is a critical technological infrastructure for managing and coordinating military operations. It integrates a series of procedures, protocols, and equipment that allows commanders and their staff to effectively control forces and operations. The system collects real-time data from various sources, including satellites and sensors, and then processes this information to provide a clear situational picture, helping decision-makers understand the battlefield or ongoing operation. Based on this understanding, commanders can then formulate action plans, strategies, and tactics. Once these plans are in place, the C2 system ensures the rapid and accurate dissemination of orders and information to units in the field.
Additionally, the system facilitates coordination between different military units, whether they are ground troops, naval forces, or air forces. Finally, the system offers ways to evaluate the effectiveness of undertaken actions, which is crucial for adjusting current and future plans. By integrating all these elements, the C2 system significantly enhances the effectiveness and efficiency of military operations.
Earlier this year, Combitech secured a 10-year framework agreement worth SEK 1.2 billion ($107.7 million) to provide services and technical support for the LSS Mark initiative. In February 2022, BAE Systems also won a contract from the FMV to upgrade 40 CV90 Mjölner systems to align them with LSS Mark standards.
