Danish Army extends loan of Canadian WISENT 2 engineer tracked armored vehicles until 2029.
According to information published by the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation on June 24, 2025, Denmark has officially extended its bilateral agreement with the Canadian Armed Forces for the loan of WISENT 2 Armoured Engineer Vehicles (AEVs) from 2027 to 2029. The agreement was signed on April 10, 2025, in Brussels by Nancy Tremblay, Assistant Deputy Minister for the Materiel Group, and Lieutenant General Kim Jesper Jørgensen during a meeting of NATO’s Committee of Materiel Directors (CNAD).

The three Canadian-loaned WISENT 2 AEVs (Armored Engineer Vehicles), which initially arrived in Denmark in August 2024, will continue to play a crucial role in preparing Danish Army engineers for the operational deployment of their own vehicles. Although Denmark has signed a procurement contract for the WISENT 2, domestic deliveries of its own units are not expected before 2027. With the extension of the loan, Danish soldiers from the Engineer Regiment in Skive will gain advanced operational skills on the platform, ensuring readiness for when the national fleet is delivered.
In January 2025, Canadian instructors traveled to Denmark to retrain and educate Danish personnel on the WISENT 2 systems, a collaborative effort that has enabled the development of training plans, tactical doctrine, and technical standards, streamlining the integration of the future Danish fleet.
Beyond the AEV variant, Denmark is also enhancing its capabilities with a lease agreement signed with German manufacturer Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft (FFG) for a WISENT 2 Armoured Recovery Vehicle (ARV). This vehicle, intended for training and field recovery operations, will support Danish Leopard 2 main battle tanks and CV9035 infantry fighting vehicles. The leased ARV will be used until the first domestically owned WISENT 2 ARV is delivered, which is expected from 2027.
The WISENT 2 platform, developed by FFG, is a modern, modular military engineering vehicle built on the proven Leopard 2 chassis. Available in both AEV and ARV configurations, it combines high survivability, power, and flexibility. In the AEV role, the WISENT 2 can conduct a range of combat engineering tasks such as minefield breaching, route clearance, dozing, and obstacle removal. Its standard equipment includes a high-capacity front-mounted dozer blade, crane, excavator arm, and mine plow options.
As an ARV (Armored Engineer Vehicle), the WISENT 2 is outfitted with a heavy-duty crane, winches, and recovery gear capable of towing and repairing damaged tanks and armored vehicles in forward combat areas. With a combat weight of approximately 60 tons and advanced protection systems, it provides engineering and recovery support in high-threat environments, making it a cornerstone of modern mechanized operations.
