The DXPV (Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicle) “Kaaiman” is derived from the U.S. Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV), a multi-mission platform developed to replace the aging Humvee fleet of the U.S. Armed Forces. The JLTV combines high mobility, ballistic protection, and digital integration, designed to survive modern battlefield threats such as improvised explosive devices, small arms fire, and ambushes. Featuring a TAK-4i intelligent independent suspension system, a digitally controlled powertrain, and a modular design adaptable for multiple mission roles, the JLTV delivers unmatched performance in off-road and expeditionary operations.

The Dutch DXPV builds upon this platform with specific enhancements tailored to the operational requirements of the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps. While maintaining the JLTV’s core survivability and mobility, the Kaaiman incorporates upgraded communications suites compatible with Dutch and NATO command networks, enhanced ergonomics for extended mission endurance, and specialized fittings for maritime and amphibious deployment. The vehicle is optimized for rapid deployment from naval platforms and integrates seamlessly with existing Dutch Marine Corps logistics and combat systems.

The Royal Netherlands Marine Corps (Korps Mariniers) is an elite amphibious infantry unit of the Royal Netherlands Navy, renowned for its rapid reaction capability and extensive expeditionary experience. Tasked with operations ranging from national defense to NATO and UN missions, the Marine Corps is structured for high-readiness deployment and specializes in operations across urban, coastal, and littoral environments. With the addition of the Kaaiman DXPV, the Marine Corps gains a new level of tactical mobility, protection, and joint force interoperability essential for modern conflict scenarios.

This acquisition of U.S. JLTVs reinforces the Netherlands’ strategic commitment to strengthen its expeditionary ground forces and deepens its defense-industrial collaboration with the United States. The deployment of the Kaaiman is expected to elevate the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps’ operational readiness across allied missions, setting a new standard in light tactical vehicle performance for NATO-aligned forces.
