new whheled armoured vehicle, the Protector.
Many
European countries are currently in the process of acquiring
North Charleston, SC- Protected Vehicles, Inc. is pleased
to announce development of its newest wheeled combat vehicle
The Protector. Designed to improve upon the shortcomings
encountered by the current HMMWV in operational theatre
during missions and patrols in Iraq and Afghanistan, The
Protector offers advanced armor solutions to threats from
both improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and the more recent
and devastating explosively formed penetrators (EFP) utilized
by the enemy. With a curb weight of only 14,000 pounds,
The Protector offers improved safety from ballistics, IEDs
and EFPs in a lighter package than the HMMWV. In addition
to standard armor, The Protector is designed to accept the
up-armor ShieldAll™, available exclusively from Protected
Vehicles, Inc. This revolutionary next-generation composite
armor material is not only a lighter, more capable and cost-effective
armor solution to steel, but has also been repeatedly tested
at U.S. Government facilities as a proven defense against
deadly EFPs. As the threats on a new asymmetric battlefront
continue to evolve, The Protector has arrived to mitigate
risks, protect the war-fighters and accomplish the mission.

New
wheeled armoured vehicle for Croatian Army, finalists were Patria's
AMV and GD Steyr's Pandur II.
Many
European countries are currently in the process of acquiring
wheeled armored personnel carriers, from former East-Bloc
nations replacing their old Soviet BTRs, to NATO countries
buying lighter and less protected equipment as replacements
for their tanks, to new European states looking for road-mobile
and affordable armor. Recent contracts in in Europe have
tended to involve competitions between 3 key competitors:
General Dynamics subsidiaries MOWAG (Piranha) and Steyr-SSG
(Pandur), and Finland's Patria Oyj (AMV). Croatia's finalists
were Patria's AMV and GD Steyr's Pandur II. Reportas indicate
that the Croatian Army is interested in up to 126 vehicles,
with EUR 170 million set aside for the project. Now, there
are reports that a winner has been selected – but
a press correspondent on the scene says it isn't so…
A Croatian media report claims that a EUR 200 million contract
to deliver 126 Armoured Vehicles to the Croatian Army has
been awarded to Patria's AMV, with the vehicles built by
Duro Dakovic special vehicles in Slavonski Brod. The report
adds that GD Steyr's Pandur II had oil leaking problems
and one punctured tire during the tests. Press local correspondent
says the report is false.
