Operated
by 14 soldiers, an SAMP/T system comprises:

A fire-control module based on the Arabel radar developed
by Thales Air Systems. This multifunction radar provides
360-degree coverage for surveillance, detection and target
tracking with very high accuracy. The Radar is mounted on
a Renault 8x4 Kerax truck.

A ground launcher system comprising four truck-mounted vertical
launchers (which can be increased to six), each launcher
in turn can carry 8 Aster 30 missiles and two reloading
modules which allow a quick return to readiness for new
engagements. Aster 30 Block I missiles, part of the family
of missiles developed by MBDA. This family comprises a basic,
two-stage vertically-launched missile fitted with an original
“pif-paf” pilotage device which improves conventional
aerodynamic controls by adding dynamic thrust controls at
the missile’s center of gravity.

A truck-mounted engagement module, which is in charge for
the the firing control and the command operations. This
unit uses also a Renault 8x4 Kerax truck.
