Russia has successfully completed the firing of a new prototype of intercontinental ballistic missile.

The new Russian Intercontinental ballistic missile will replace the ballistic missile R-36M2 Voevoda, known in the West under the name of SS-18 Satan.
     

"A unit of the Russian strategic ballistic troops conducted a successful test firing with a prototype of a new intercontinental ballistic missile from a mobile launcher," said the press service.

The warhead of the missile destroys its target on the polygon of "Sary-Shagan" in Kazakhstan. The firing was performed to test the technical performance of the missile and its warhead, according to the press service.

"The new intercontinental ballistic missile is expected to strengthen the potential for strikes of the Russian nuclear forces, thanks to its increased capacity to overcome missile defense systems being created," added the press service.

The intercontinental ballistic missile weighing 100 tonnes that Russia will create by 2018 is intended to replace the ballistic missile R-36M2 Voevoda, known in the West under the name of SS-18 Satan, which has a payload of 10 tonnes. The new intercontinental ballistic missile will be able to carry a payload of 5 tons, four times more than the Topol and IARS RS-24 missiles. It will be more easily able to overcome the U.S. missile defense system that Russian ballistic missiles with solid fuel as the IARS RS-24 , Topol-M and Bulava.
