Belgium selects the Spike missile of EuroSpike to replace its anti-tank missiles Milan. | |||
The Belgian Minister of Defence approved December 10, 2012, a budget for the purchase of 66 new anti-tank missile systems for an amount of 41 million Euro. This is the German Company Eurospike that won the contract with its anti-tank and anti-fortifications missile Spike Medium-Range (MR).

EuroSpike GmbH is a joint venture of Rheinmetall Defence Electronics (RDE, Bremen), Diehl BGT Defence GmbH & Co. KG (DBD, Überlingen) and Rafael Armament Development Authority, (Rafael, Haifa, Israel). The main objectives of EuroSpike are the marketing and supply of the SPIKE family of multi-purpose guided missile systems.
The SPIKE family of missiles represents the latest generation of anti-armor/multi-purpose weapon systems that combines fire & forget and fire observe & update capabilities with pinpoint accuracy over the full range of 2,500m for Spike Medium-Range (MR), 4,000m for Spike Long Range (LR) and up to 8,000m for Spike Extended Range (ER). The Spike-MR is a lightweight, man-portable, Fire and Forget, multi-purpose missile system with a range of up to 2,500 meters. Its Fire and Forget operational mode guarantees maximum gunner survivability and high hit probability. Spike-MR is predestined for modern operations in the multi-faceted battle. Belgium will also bought 111 short range anti-tank weapons Panzerfaust 3 (PzF 3) manufactured by the German Company Dynamit Nobel Defence. |
