Western Military District of Russian army has received more than 2,000 armoured vehicles in 2012.
In 2012, the Western Military District of the Russian armed forces has received more than 2,000 armoured vehicles including main battle tanks T-72B1, 8x8 armored personnel carrier vehicles BTR-82, BREM-K wheeled armoured recovery vehicle based on the BTR-80 8x8 APC, and multirole tracked armored vehicles MT-LB VMK.

More than 900 trucks "Kamaz-Mustang", 200 trucks Ural, trailers and other military vehicles were also delivered to several units of the Western Military District.

In order to ensure the use of all these new vehicles, soldiers of the Russian army followed specialized training needed to use modern combat equipment.

The T-72B1 main battle tank was adopted for service in the Russian army in 1985. Developed from the T-72B version, it lacks some elements of the guided weapons system.

The BTR-82 is an upgraded version of the BTR-80 wheeled armored vehicles. The firepower of the BTR-82 is increase by the use of a new unified fighting module with electric drive armed with one 14.5 mm machine gun coupled with a 7.62 mm machine gun.

The BREM-K is a wheeled armoured recovery vehicle based on the chassis of the BTR-80 8x8 APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier). The BREM-K equipment comprises a crane that can lift a cargo weighing up to 1.5 tons, a towing rod, a dozer blade, electric welding equipment, and cargo platform to accommodate spare parts.


The MT-LB VMK is an upgraded version of the standard multirole tracked armoured vehicle MT-LB. The vehicle is designed to transport soldier on the battlefield, towed artillery systems, cargo carrier with basic armour protection and high mobility in all-terrain conditions
