The
Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reports that the leader of the Democratic
People’s Republic of Korea (DRPK), Kim Jong Un, has supervised a
live artillery drill close to a disputed sea border with South Korea.
Meanwhile, Seoul is conducting its own routine drills near the demilitarized
zone at the border of the two countries, in addition to joint military
drills with the US. |

The undated photo provided by Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on March 14, 2013 shows Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), watching a live shell firing drill at the southwest sector of the front line. |

KCNA
did not specify when the drill took place. The border is seen as the most
likely site of any clash between the North, which has stepped up military
preparations in response to being sanctioned for its February nuclear
test, and South Korea. In
its report, KCNA said Kim, who also is a marshal in the North Korean military,
was pleased with the level of accuracy of the artillery units. The report
was quoted as saying the aim of the exercise is to destroy the headquarters
of the South Korean army and marine corps units on the two islands as
well as other military installations. |
