Slovakia is to send up to 150 soldiers to the International Security Assistance Force mission in Afghanistan within two tours of duty as part of the Special Operation Training Group, Slovak Defence Minister Martin Glvac said on Thursday, March 15, 2013.
Slovakia has 253 soldiers deployed within the ISAF mission at present.

"The exact numbers will be known after talks with our coalition allies," said Glvac.

The expenses for deployment of Slovak soldiers will be covered by the Defence Ministry budget and be financially assisted by the United States with 20 million euros (25.9 million U.S. dollars) in total.

"The change in configuration that was approved today reflects the latest developments and the needs of our allies. On one hand, we are extending the activities of our unit in Kandahar by another year, while on the other, we're preparing to send a special unit," said Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajcak.
