A new version of the BMPT, the Terminator 2, a multipurpose tank and infantry support vehicle, will make its debut Sept. 25 at the Russia Arms EXPO 2013 in Nizhny Tagil. The manufacturer of Russia's main battle tank, Uralvagonzavod, plans to unveil a new tank support fighting vehicle during the Russian Expo Arms 2013, which will be held from the 25 to 28 September 2013 in Nizhny Tagil, Russia.
The Russian made BMPT Terminator 1 at Russian Expo Arms, defense exhibition in Nizhny Tagil, Russia.

Uralvagonzavod, which produces the T-72 tank, did not release the Terminator 2 specifications but said it features an upgraded fire-control system and added turret weapon station protection.

Like its BMPT predecessor, it is built on the platform of the T-72 tank.

The company said countries that operate T-72 tanks "can promptly and at minimum cost upgrade their armies to ultra-modern level, enhance its capacity, mobility, protection and armament without purchasing new high-cost machines" with the BMPT-72.

Uralvagonzavod's T-72 is Russia's main battle tank and first entered service in 1971. It weighs 45.7 tons and has a range of 466 km (692 km with fuel drums).

The BMPT was unveiled at the Ural Second Exhibition of Armaments and Military Equipment held in Sverdlovsk Oblast, Nizhny Tagil, Russia, in July 2000.

The BMPT (Terminator) is armed with two 30mm 2A42 automatic cannons that can fire AP and HE projectiles. The two magazines can load ammunition of 850 rounds. Two coaxially mounted AGS-17A or AG-30 30mm grenade launchers stabilised in two planes and four supersonic Ataka-T anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) launchers form the primary armament. The ATGMs are loaded with thermobaric, HE-FRAG and HEAT warheads and have a maximum range of 5km.
