Many of the submarines, frigates and fighter jets in service Latin American countries have Thales technology and communications. In addition, Thales optronics and electronic warfare systems have been selected by various armed forces in the region. Based on this success, the Group has a strong position in new contracts for major acquisition programs and modernisation of Armed Forces.

VEHICLE PROTECTION

Land forces are increasingly demanding “On the Move” capabilities, particularly those which can be integrated with existing vehicle systems. The introduction of armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs) into the urban environment and the threat from improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) demand a higher peripheral vision capability. In response to these new demands, TIM Tactical Range Thermal Imagers provide full day/night imaging for remote controlled weapon stations and small turrets, even in adverse weather conditions, thus increasing Local Situational Awareness capability.

To enhance drivers’ vision, the Minerva dual band sensor is a compact and versatile sensor system ideal for improving general situational awareness. This module has a thermal imager integrated with a colour/low light day camera which also enhances user visibility 24 hours per day in all weather conditions.

The Ground Master family of radars is dedicated to the protection of key assets and deployed forces. Launched in 2008 and 2010 respectively, the Ground Master (GM) 400 and GM 200 have bolstered ThalesRaytheonSystems’s leading position in the air defence radar field.

GROUND BASED RADARS

The Ground Master family of radars is dedicated to the protection of key assets and deployed forces. Launched in 2008 and 2010 respectively, the Ground Master (GM) 400 and GM 200 have bolstered ThalesRaytheonSystems’s leading position in the air defence radar field.

The GM 400 is a 3-D long-range air defence radar able to detect threats from both high and low altitudes bringing a unique capability to track highly manoeuvrable, low flying targets with a small Radar Cross Section while providing an excellent global air picture. In the last three years, ThalesRaytheonSystems has secured a number of contracts encompassing 34 radars for 9 countries including: Slovenia, Malaysia, France and other undisclosed customers.

The GM 200 is a tactical 3-D medium range air defence radar which offers outstanding performance in terms of warning delay and tracking accuracy of highly manoeuvrable targets flying at both low and high altitude. With full 3D coverage, the GM 200 radar can integrate two operator positions within a C4I solution: managing air defence assets or as a standalone sensor. Under production for two undisclosed customers, this dual-use radar is adaptable to any force’s needs or situation.
