The
LG1 Mk-III is a towed artillery canon designed and
manufactured by the French Company Nexter Systems. The main advantage
of the 105 LG1 Mk III is its weight, 1 520 kg, making it by far the lightest
gun of its category. This lightness in no way alters its robustness and
its performances. The gun is lightweight, very easy to use and is the ideal weapon for airlift, airdropping, helicopter or amphibious operations, with efficiency demonstrated during combat in Afghanistan. The LG1 MK III is fitted an inertial navigation unit used to guide, position and aim the canon. This system further reduces the time for getting into firing configuration. The 105 LG Mk III can be integrated into a firing control system (system C3l). Operated by a five-man gun crew, which can be reduced to three, the 105 LG1 Mk III can fire all NATO 105 mm ammunition up to a range of 18.5 km. The rapidity with which it can be put into and brought out of battery (less than thirty seconds) and its firing rate (12 rounds per minute) complete the qualities of this artillery piece. The Nexter Systems105 mm LG1 Light Gun can be towed by a wide range of light wheeled military vehicles. At total of 20 LG1 Mk III towed guns could be in service with the Colombian army. |
