OTO Melara presents UGV Unmanned Ground Vehicle OTO-TRP2 and OTO-TRP3 at Eurosatory 2014.
At Eurosatory 2014, Italian Defence Company OTO MELARA presents a full range of unmanned ground platforms which consist of a complete series of robotic platforms starting to the smallest 3 kg 4 wheel-drive TRP 3 to the biggest tracked 300 Kg IEDD/ FDD specialized TRP2 Heavy Duty Special versions for CBRNE Mine -detection, Combat missions are available as well.

OTO Melara is developing robots that mainly reach their operative peaks in the sectors set just beyond the visual field, that is the one at the highest risk for the first-line troops, in order to guarantee, consequently, the safeness of the soldiers. OTO Melara in order to fit the previous requirements is finalizing some research in "the TRP" (Tele-operated Robotic Platform) family: it consists of a complete series of robotic platforms starting. The smallest, called TRP 3, weights 3 kg, is wheeled, electrically propelled and it reaches a maximum speed of 2 Km/h.

The TRP-3 NEC is a small, lightweight, four-wheel drive UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) equipped with six day/night cameras that fulfill reconnaissance, surveillance target acquisition goals in order to enhance the operator situational awareness increasing his safety in those operative environments characterized by a high risk for users.

The system is modular and flexible with respect to payload integration. In fact, despite the small dimension, the increasing miniaturization of sensors and electronic devices allows to integrate complex subset able to guarantee high performances. OTO TRP3 is able to operate as a node within a Sensors, systems and platforms network. Thanks to its small size, it can be easily carried on and deployed from a larger UGV, from manned vehicle or simply hand-launched. In this case it's indifferent what face is on top, the vehicle recognize it and re-configure the cameras accordingly.

The TRP-3-NEC can be easily operated by a single soldier using a hand-portable control unit integrated with a specific joystick.

The 0T0-TRP2 Heavy Duty is a remotely operated, dual use UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle) with outstanding mobility, speed, load capacity, ease of remote control and effectiveness of the onboard arm. Its modular and fexible architecture can interface sensors and payload of up to over 100 kg, while maintaining the the vehicle's characteristics mobility, thus making it effective even in the most difficult missions.

OTO TRP2 has been designed in order to be easily packed in three military back-packs and then reassembled within a couple of minutes. Its total weight is 70 to 90 Kg, 20 of them sensors or mission payloads. It can reach a maximum speed of 15 km/h and its endurance is longer than 3 hours.

The OTO TRP2 can be equipped with a light machine gun FN MINIMI 5.56mm caliber or an 40mm automatic grenade launcher. On request, the robot can be armed with different light machine guns.

OTO-TRP2 Heavy Duty can also integrate as payload a range of robotic arms of varying size and operability according to the specific mission requirements, thus enabling the system to master various operational contexts: from the movement of obstacles to its own means of progressing, to small-scale long-distance manipulation.

OTO-TRP2 Heavy Duty , thanks to its particular patented track system, can also adapt its configuration during its movements in order to cross obstacles of over 30 cm in height or slopes of over 60 %, reaching a considerable speed of over 10 km/h full loaded. Remote control operation is immediate and can be easily undertaken also by non-expert operators thanks to the intuitive commands and the use of specific algorithm software to simplify high-level control.

Due to its mass and power to weight ratio , the TRP2 Heavy Duty can be also provided in massive mine-detection version with in front a scanning plate The frontal dozer blade plate can host robotic arms for IEDD/EOD operations , CBRNE sensors, Combat mount ( the same of TRP2 Combat).
