The ongoing dynamic growth of economies in Asia presents defense companies with significant opportunities. Following a sustained period of positive growth, many Southeast Asian countries are building up military capabilities, with an eye toward better protection of their assets.

They also seek to defend their territorial integrity in the context of a fast changing security landscape. While defense spending for the region is growing, the scale and pace varies significantly from country to country. Indonesia, for instance, has more than doubled its spending in the past 5 years, whereas Cambodia and Laos are expanding their budgets more slowly.

China and especially NORINCO (China North Industries Corporation) understand the interest to be present at IDEAS 2014, one the most important defense event in the region.

Norinco is also known in the region for its high-tech defense products. According to some Internet sources, the Chinese-made SH-1 155mm 52-calibre self-propelled howitzer underwent extensive trials in Thar Desert and Northern Areas of Pakistan.

The main armament of the SH-1 consists of an 155-mm / L52 howitzer mounted at the rear of 6x6 truck chassis. It is compatible with all standard 155-mm NATO ammunition, as well as ammunition developed by NORINCO.

The SH1 is equipped with a computerised fire-control system, with a muzzle velocity sensor which feed the data directly to the fire-control computer.
