Turkish Defense Industry to intensify efforts for collaboration in the defense field with Pakistan. | |||
The
Turkish defense industry presents its full portfolio of military equipment
and technologies at IDEAS 2014, the International Defense Exhibition in
Pakistan, which takes place in Karachi from the 1 to 4 December 2014.
At IDEAS 2014, Pakistani government state own company Heavy Industry Taxila
and Turkey signed an agreement that will enhance the Pakistani company
capacity to build armoured vehicles. |

Turkey is a major exporter of equipment to countries like Pakistan, Azerbaijan
and Turkmenistan. And it's not just countries that are keen to purchase

Roketsan
is a major Turkish weapons manufacturer and defense contractor based in
the central Anatolian province of Ankara. Incorporated in 1988 by Turkey's
Defense Industry Executive Committee (SSIK) in order to establish the
nation's industrial base on rocket technology, the company has quickly
risen to become one of Turkey's top 500 industrial establishments. Roketsan manufactures rocket and missile technology and has expanded its operations with the goal of offering defense weapons to Turkish allies. In October 2014, Lockheed Martin and Turkish weapons manufacturer Roketsan have signed a partnership agreement to develop, produce and market air-to-surface missiles for the F-35 fighter program. The companies seek to offer a new Standoff Cruise Missile variant that can be placed in F-35 internal carriage bays or on external carriage of other aircraft platforms. |

The
Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK) produces equipment
for the Turkish Armed Forces, such as the ammunition for small arms and
heavy weapons, artillery systems, aerial bombs, mines, explosives, and
rockets. MKEK also manufactures civil-purpose products such as steel,
brass, and electrical parts and equipment. Its large range of defense
industry products are not only demanded in Turkey, but are exported to
more than 40 countries worldwide.
At IDEAS 2014, MKEK shows the U.S. Mk19 40mm grenade launcher which is produced under license by MKEK. According representatives of the Company, this weapon will be delivered to the Pakistani army in the next few months. The Mk 19 is a belt-fed, blowback-operated, air-cooled, crew-served, fully automatic weapon that is designed to fire 40 mm grenades at a cyclic rate of 325 to 375 rounds per minute. The Mk 19 can launch its grenade at a maximum distance of 2,212 meters, though its effective range is about 1,500 meters. |
