Kharkiv Automobile Repair Plant’ jointly with ‘Kharkiv Morozov Machine-Building Design Bureau’ have established the way how Ukrainian version of facility’s upgrading should be done in accordance with the order from military department. Ukrainian KrAZ-6322 Vehicle with the wheel arrangement 6x6 will be used as a mobile platform of the combat complex.

Combat complexes are developed in two options: KrAZ-6322RA Bastion-I with chassis truck length up to 8.5m and KrAZ-6322RA Bastion-II with 9.32m chassis truck length accordingly. The main difference of Bastion-II from the other vehicle is the rapid reloading system (RRS). Besides, onboard there are 40 additional rocket missiles placed inside the special open charges. Due to the RRS usage it takes just two minutes roughly to recharge the facility, or, otherwise, it requires 7 minutes without RRS.

Bastion-I and Bastion-II are equipped with satellite navigation systems. This facility significantly increases the MLRS’s autonomy when in transportation and on firing position as well. Moreover, while modernizing the facility, the developments of Orizon-Navigation State Enterprise, which is Ukroboronprom member-enterprise, were also used. This enterprise is the leading company among former Soviet states in the field of GLONASS/GPS transceivers and systems based on it.

Compliance of MLRS with reconnaissance, targeting and combat control systems is a very important requirement. In such combination they become reconnaissance-strike complexes, being able to destroy targets, even of a small size. In particular, the firing capability while moving, launcher reloading automation, and reduction of coagulation/deployment time increase the system’s efficiency.

Maximum firing range in the basic version BM-21 is 20.5 km, and minimal one 5 km accordingly. Notably, new ammunitions can be used in upgraded version of BM-21 Bastion. Thus, firing range gets at 40 km, which improves technical specifications of the device significantly.
