In 2014, ADEX has welcomed 200 companies from 34 countries, occupying 3 pavilions of Baku Expo Centre. The 8 national groups from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Korea, Poland, Israel and Ukraine have set up their displays at the exhibition.
ADEX 2014 event had been classified by exhibitors & professional visitors as one of the most important international events with the participation of the foreign delegations, including representatives from ministries and forces chiefs. On November 2014, Azeri Finance Minister Samir Sharifov said, “Azerbaijan’s armed forces need better military equipment as Armenia continues its occupation policy in defiance of international law” and announced that in 2015 Azerbaijan’s defense budget would increase 27 percent to $4.8 billion. Four years after declaring that its annual military expenditure has surpassed Armenia’s entire state budget worth about $3 billion, Azerbaijan reportedly plans to spend only $1.2 billion on defense and security in 2016. Azerbaijan to increase defense spending in 2016 is set to increase 2016 defense spending by 21.3% ($250 million). The defense spending for the approved budget 2016 budget had been predicted to be $1.2 billion. Azerbaijan’s government has assigned the issue of localizing production of staple military hardware as a strategic development matter for the coming decades. This has been confirmed by state investment programmes aimed at developing domestic military production over this period, primarily the establishment of the Ministry of Defence Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan by Ilham Aliyev’s Presidential order on 16 December 2005. A range of major projects have been completed in Azerbaijan’s defence industry, and production capacity for military goods has been dramatically expanded. Thus, the armored vehicles, sniper rifles of different calibers, automatic rifles, pistols, machine guns, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), grenade launchers, mortars, optical-mechanical & optoelectronic devices can be shown to be products the manufacturing of which were launched by the Ministry during a certain period of activity. Furthermore, all types of ammunition are currently produced by the enterprises of the Ministry. |
