According a video footage released on Internet, October 23, 2016, the Russian armed forces have taken delivery of the first battalion of new BUK-M3 9K317M SAM air defense missile system during the 3 quarter of 2016.

A battalion of 9K317M "Buk-M3, includes a command post 9S510M, one detection and target designation station with 9S36M radar, two TELAR 9A317M (Transporter Erector LAuncher and Radar) with six anti-aircraft 9M317M guided missiles and one TEL 9A316M (Transporter Erector Launcher) vehicle with 12 surface-to-air missile as well as transport and loading vehicle (TLV) 9T243M.
In June 2016, experts of the Russian Company JSC Concern Almaz-Antey test fired a missile from the Buk-M3 new advanced medium-range air defense missile system on a ballistic target at the Kapustin Yar range. The Buk-M3 system is superior to the S-300 air defense missile system by a number of characteristics, including the kill probability.
The Buk-M3 system has a range of 70 kilometers (43.5 miles), which is 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) more compared to previous versions of the Buk-M1 antiaircraft missile system. The Buk-M3 has a maximum firing altitude of 35 kilometers (21.7 miles).
