Saturday, April 2, 2016 North Korea has conducted the test launch of its KN-06 air defense missile system. North Korea unveiled the missile at a military parade celebrating the 65th anniversary of the founding of its Workers Party on October 10 in 2012.

First images of North Korea KN-06 surface-to-air defense missile system tests-fired were published on Internet. First seen in the 2012 parade, the KN-06 mobile surface-to-air missile system (known in the DPRK as the Pongae-5 SAM) it seemed to be a mock-up. The North's official Korean Central News Agency reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un inspected a test-fire of the new weapon system, and the ground-to-air interceptor missile accurately hit and destroyed a target object in the air. The KN-06 could be able to hit a target up to 150 kilometers away. The system is equipped with a phased array radar. Each launcher truck can hold two to three missiles. The first tests firing of the KN-06 missile was performed in April 2015. |
