Semi Conductor Devices (SCD) – a leader in the development and manufacture of a full spectrum of cooled and uncooled infrared detectors and laser diodes – unveils two advanced SWIR (Short Wave Infrared) solutions at Eurosatory. The Low SWaP miniature Cardinal LD brings SWIR capabilities for the first time to hand-held applications. The Cardinal 1280 HD is a high-resolution SWIR detector that is ideal for the longest-range surveillance applications, providing the highest image quality.

According to Baruch Glick, CEO, “In recent years, the use of the SWIR wavelength has been expanding in order to overcome the shortcomings of the other wavelengths during twilight hours and in harsh weather conditions. We took it one step further and succeeded in miniaturizing this technology in order to make it usable in even the smallest observation devices. We added HD capability to enable sharp and clear pictures for very long distance surveillance.”

The Low Swap Cardinal LD is a new generation 15µm SWIR detector specially designed for integration with man-portable hand-held devices. The detector is based on the SCD TECless ceramic package with a 15µm pitch InGaAs detector, coupled with the SCD SNIR ROIC.

Applications include night imaging devices, laser rangefinders, small-size payloads and image intensifier replacements, active imaging, and Driving Vision Enhancement (DVE) systems. Special features include a 2-Dimensional Laser Range Finder (TLRF) and Asynchronous Laser Pulse Detection (ALPD).

The Cardinal 1280 HD is a new generation high-resolution SWIR InGaAs 10µm pixel detector, which enables EO/IR systems to utilize the SWIR wavelength for low-light imaging and very long range day surveillance in severe weather conditions such as smoke, dust, fog, rain, etc.

Applications include ground-based and airborne payloads, active imaging, airborne Enhanced Vision Systems (EVS), and Driving Vision Enhancement (DVE) systems.

Glick continued, “Both of these solutions, which we are introducing at Eurosatory for the first time, have only recently been developed. They are already being sold to a number of integrators around the world for whom it is critical to provide surveillance systems of the highest quality to their customers.”
