|
Russian Pantsyr-S (NATO reporting name: SA-22 Greyhound) self-propelled anti-air gun-missile system (SPAAGM) has received new bi-directional radar, according to broadcast by Russia Today on February 3rd.

The broadcast has confirmed, that Russia has deployed new Pantsyr-S modification at the Hmeimim airbase in Syria. At least, one modified SPAAGM has been spotted.
The modified SPAAGM was labeled as Pantsyr-S2 by RT. However, there are no official information, confirming such designation for the system. Pantsyr-S1 with new bi-directional radar was revealed at the MAKS-2015 air show outside Moscow. It is supposed that Iraq and Algeria are receiving modified Pantsyrs. A pair of modified SA-22s can be set up in opposing directions, providing together 360-degree target scanning field. Single radar, however, rotates, as shown by Russia Today. Pantsyr SPAAGMs located at the Hmeimim airbase are providing the coverage for S-400 Triumph (SA-21 Growler) long-range air-defense systems. In April 2015. a defense industry source told TASS, that the new radar for Pantsyr-S was being developed. Previously, Russian military officials said, that Pantsyr-S2 SPAAGM would enter service in 2015. |
